Labyrinth Champion Quests: This Time, Without A Weapon
Albion Chapter 2 - Unraveling
Infernal Investigation Chamberlain Harlen says, "It's good that you've returned, Urimoo. The King is quite concerned about the chance that our battle with the demons has not yet concluded. Until the High Consul returns, your top priority is the investigation of this possibility." Will you assist the Chamberlain in uncovering more about the continued demonic threat? [Level 50] Chamberlain Harlen says, "You are to work directly with Merlin's Vanguard, the organization Anataeus leads in its never-ending battle against the otherwordly, in rooting out this potential threat. Report to Anataeus in the castle immediately." Head to Anataeus - he's upstairs in the round table building. Anataeus says, "Merlin's Vanguard was weakened a great deal by Azazel's schemes. We have always been a small organization, but many of our members were killed by his minions during the confusion after my kidnapping. I'm very glad to have [your help] for this." Anataeus says, "I've seen many reports showing a significant increase in infernalist activity recently. Strangely enough, it's been concentrated entirely in the frontiers. [Demon Summoning Stones] are being erected from Snowdonia to Hadrian's Wall, with more joining the rituals around them all the time." Anataeus says, "Demon Summoning Stones are built using demon stone mined from teh very depths of Darkness Falls itself, then brought to the surface to serve as a conduit for demonic energy. They also serve as anchors for the demons summoned through them, tethering them to our world once the summoning rituals have been [completed]." Anataeus says, "I need you to venture out into the frontiers and destroy these stones, shutting down the portals and allowing you to collect pieces of them for my research. Five pieces should be enough to trace the demonic energy back to its latest source. Go to the frontier side of Forest Sauvage and speak with valaylla. She can give you the latest reports of the stones' locations." Valaylla is in Forest Sauvage, in a corner near the portal stone at the keep. Talk to her. Valaylla says, "You must be Urimoo. Let's keep this brief. The [infernalists] gather more power while we tarry." Valaylla says, "I've heard rumors of infernalists gathering all across the frontiers, but I only have a few reports containing actual [locations] of Demon Summoning Stones." Valaylla says, "They can be found near Renaris Spire, Caer Sursbrooke Watchtower, Hurbury Outpost, Caer Erasleigh Guardtower, and Caer Benowyc Spire. Of course, there are likely many more throughout the frontiers, so if they've moved from any of those locations, don't give up. Take this scroll and use it in case you forget where to [search]." Valaylla says, "The destruction of the stones is your first priority, but beware the infernalists that built them. Also, be careful of the sudden release of unrestrained demonic energy when the [stone is broken]." Valaylla says, "It doesn't tend to leave much behind, but you should be able to recover at least one piece sizeable enough for Anataeus' research for every stone you destroy. You will need help for this mission and Merlin's Vanguard can't spare anyone, so bring friends." You need to destroy five demon summoning stones. They can be found throughout the frontiers, but there's no need to go hunting for a bunch of different stones - you can just find one and kill it over and over again. They are on a two minute respawn, so it's faster to camp one than it is to go off running to another. The scroll Valaylla gave you says: Demon Summoning Stones in the Albion Frontier can sometimes be found southwest and north across the river from Renaris Spire, and southeast of Sursbrooke Watchtower. Others have been spotted west and northeast of Hurbury Outpost, southwest of Erasleigh Outpost, and east of Benowyc Spire. There are likely many more throughout both the Hibernian and Midgard Frontiers. The Infernalists have taken to moving their activities between the various locations to avoid interference. If you don't find them at one location, you should try looking in another. I don't have a complete list of locations, but since you should only need a couple... Once you get to the location, if the stone is spawned it will be surrounded by five infernalists and a Master Infernalist. These are not directly part of the quest, but they're in your way... you can pull them usually one or two at a time, and since they are blue (the Master Infernalist is yellow), they are easily solo'd. Once its guards are dead, you can deal with the summoning stone itself. It is basically an enemy that doesn't fight back - target it, and attack away. It doesn't have a lot of health like a siege object, so it won't take long. When you've killed it, you (and your group) will receive a Chunk of Demon Stone. When you have five chunks of demon stone, return to Valaylla. Valaylla says, "Have you destroyed five of the Demon Summoning Stones, Urimoo? And do you have the Chunks of Demon Stone for Anataeus? If so let me examine them first." Valaylla says, "These will do just fine. Perhaps we can finally discover the true source of our demonic opposition once and for all. Get these to Anataeus immediately. He awaits you in his tower where the rituals can be performed. Use this teleportation stone within the Academy of Camelot to reach him." Head to the Academy in Camelot, and go up to the top floor next to Master Narudos. Once there, /use the teleportation stone Valaylla gave you and you (and your group , if they're in Camelot) will be transported to Arcane Tower, Anataeus' home. Go to Anataeus, and hand him the chunks of demon stone. Anataeus says, "These are perfect! Now, I'll infuse these chunks into our facsimile Demon Summoning Stone. It will be much weaker than those the infernalists build, but still strong enough to trace the demonic energy it channels back to its source. All that remains is your word to [begin]." If you are in a group, you should be sure that only one person tells Anataeus to begin. Otherwise, the spell effects will repeat for each person that does so... The next bit of dialogue will appear in your chat window, rather than the box. Anataeus says, "Let us commence!" Anataeus says, "I can see the flow of demonic energy. It twists and turns north from here through the mountains, into the hills and past Cotswold. That's strange. It's not turning towards Darkness Falls. It oozes through Castle Sauvage, curves northwest to Caer Boldiam, then picks up speed toward Agramon." Anataeus says, "It rushes forth into a ruined tower and cascades down into the Labyrinth. Wait. What is that? A demon in the Labyrinth? He... he's looking right at me. This isn't right. Quickly, we must stop him from following the energy back to us!" Anataeus says, "It's too late! He's breaking through! Urimoo, slay the demon before he kills us all!" Algol says, "Fools! None may intrude upon a demon with impunity!" The latest speaker, Algol, is an orange con demon - always orange con, whether you are solo or in a FG. Finish him... Algol says, "This.... this is not... possible! I'm a... demon!" Then talk to Anataeus. Anataeus says, "It would take immense demonic power to break through such a weak portal. If this kind of power lurks within the Labyrinth, there must be more to these relics the Minotaurs speak of than we realize. Report back to Chamberlain Harlen and tell him what you have seen." /use the teleportation stone again to return to Camelot, then talk to Chamberlain Harlen again. Chamberlain Harlen says, "This is very serious news. Perhaps this is what Gorvinius wished to warn us about. Why would the High Consul have tried to hide this from us? Could he not have known? We need answers to these questions before word of this spreads." You are now rewarded for Infernal Investigation with 16,000,000,000 experience (that's 8,000 CLXP) and 518 gold. Chamberlain Harlen says, "We must contact the High Consul immediately. Unfortunately he is still with his people in their new home in [Campacorentin Forest]." Chamberlain Harlen says, "Since their return to these realms, the Korazh have begun digging a small system of caves there to form a new miniature Labyrinth. The High Consul lives in a portion of these caves that even other Korazh are [not allowed to enter]." Chamberlain Harlen says, "His personal guards let no one through that the High Consul has not already specifically approved, even a representative of King Constantine. But perhaps there is a way, if you're willing to help us further." Will you assist Chamberlain Harlen in contacting the High Consul within his new home? Chamberlain Harlen says, "Visit Oressa at the Lethantis Association in Campacorentin Forest. She is a Sorcerer who has focused her entire life on the study of magical [illusions]." Chamberlain Harlen says, "Oressa should be able to help you look like one of the High Consul's own guards in order to sneak in and speak to him. Just tell her I sent you. Do this as quickly as possible. The fate of this alliance depends on it." Head to the Lethantis Association, near Campacorentin Station. Oressa is up the entrance ramp and straight ahead. Oressa says, "The Chamberlain sent you? Why?" Oressa says, "Well I suppose I could create the illusion you require, but I don't have all of the components I would need on hand. Let's see... I'd [need] a stonerot worm's tooth for that grizzled guard look, pain eater ashes for color, and the feral goblin hunter's nose for body." Oressa says, "Stonerot worms actually burrow into large stones in bodies of water to wait inside and ambush large prey that swims by. They're usually not around at this time of year, but you can check the end of the narrow lake just west of here. Swim around the bottom near the stones. If there's a stonerot worm in one, don't worry, you'll see [him]." Oressa says, "Pain eaters are a recent undead creation that feed on the sorrow of undead around them. Kill all of the disturbed presences around the ruined building southeast of Caer Ulfwych to starve one out of [hiding]." Oressa says, "The feral goblin hunter has set up an ambush point at the end of the road just east of here. He hunts human and goblin alike, so you should have no problems drawing him out." First, go find a stonerot worm. There's only one place to find these - underwater at the NW corner of the river that runs through Camp Forest. Specifically, 8.2k, 4.5k - underwater at that loc is a stone from which the Stonerot Worm will emerge. It's yellow con, so not a hard fight. Next, run across the zone to 53k, 48k - SE of Caer Ulfwych, or NW of Keltoi Fogou, at the end of the side road marked on the map. Kill ALL of the disturbed presences around - including any respawns. When there are no disturbed presences up, a pain eater will spawn in the ruined house. It is also yellow con. It will repop quickly until a disturbed presence is spawned again, so if you don't want to fight a string of pain eaters, back away from the house before killing it. Finally, the feral goblin hunter - across the zone again. 32k, 6k, east of Lethantis Association, at the end of the path marked on the map. He is yet another yellow con. When you've killed all three, return to Oressa. Oressa says, "You returned fast. Maybe you didn't get the items I said I needed? If you did then let's see them. Hand me the Stonerot Worm's Tooth first." Oressa says, "This is a front tooth and I wanted a back tooth. You'd better be glad I have a spell that can fix that. Now, hand me the ashes." Oressa says, "Hey, there's dirt mixed in with these ashes! Do you want this to work or not? Well, don't just stand there, give me the nose you got." Oressa says, "And there's blood on this nose! Are you trying to make me sick?" Oressa says, "I could have [finished] that in half that time if you hadn't gotten dirt in the ashes." Oressa says, "There you go. When used in the High Consul's Sanctum the magic in this gem will create perfect illusionary replicas of the High Guardians' armor that will even change your form to resemble the High Guardians. Be sure to wear both the [vest and the leggings] for the illusion to be complete." Oressa says, "Oh and don't go thinking it'll work outside the High Consul's cave. The illusion relies on actual High Guardians being nearby to function properly. Now, leave me be. I have research to do." Now you need to go to the High Consul's cave so you can talk to him. It is just east of the Lethantis Association, at 26.5k, 5.5k. Once inside, /use the Purple Gem and then put on the armor that it summons (the High Guardian's Vest and High Guardian's Leggings). Once you have done so, make your way through the caves - don't worry about the High Guardians, they won't bother you if you're wearing the armor. Talk to High Consul Herleagis. High Consul Herleagis says, "Urimoo, what are you doing in here? Oh, I see. I had hoped we could avoid discussing this until your people had gained a litttle more [trust] in us." High Consul Herleagis says, "I did know about the demons in the Labyrinth, but you must believe that I did not mean to deceive you. The demons' involvement with my people is an embarassment that still [shames] us to this day." High Consul Herleagis says, "The gods that asked us to build our relics were not our gods at all. They were demons in disguise, seeking to corrupt and weaken the Uruz so we would be easy to conquer. Their plan worked nearly flawlessly, as the other clans fell quickly to their greed. When the demons finally attacked, we were already engrossed in civil war. We were forced to flee for our lives, seeking refuge in [faraway lands]." High Consul Herleagis says, "These scrolls are for Chamberlain Harlen, though you may read them if you wish. The scrolls explain our full history. I would have returned with them to Camelot sooner, but I have been delayed dealing with far greater concerns. Take the scrolls to the Korazh Hunter at Campacorentin Station so that he can deliver them to Camelot. Then return to me. Don't worry about my guards. You are welcome in my home now." If you want to keep copies of the scrolls for yourself, /use the scrolls. Whether you chose to keep a copy or not, take the scroll to the Korazh Hunter near the guard tower at Campacorentin Station. Then return to the High Consul in his sanctum. High Consul Herleagis says, "The scrolls for the Chamberlain also contained a note explaining what I shall now [explain] to you now. You will understand this much better if you already [read the scrolls] yourself." High Consul Herleagis says, "Further examination of the map you gave me indicates that it wasn't written by the Graoch or the Deifrang. It appears to have been written by the Thelo, the corrupt Uruz still living within the Labyrinth We believe they may be trying to form some sort of alliance with the other clans in order to finally drive out the demons once and for all, likely in exchange for some of the [relics]." High Consul Herleagis says, "The consequences of allowing such an alliance would be extremely grim for the entire realm. If this is true, we must stop it immediately. I want you to travel at once to Agramon and meet with Craesyne, our best scout. He's been making exploratory expeditions into the Labyrinth for us and may have information about this [possibility]." High Consul Herleagis says, "Take this signaling whistle. Use it at the tree just south of the closest entrance to the Labyrinth on Agramon, Craesyne's rendezvous point. This will let him know that the area is clear and he is safe to reveal himself." Head to Agramon, just outside the Albion side entrance to the Labyrinth. The tree you need to be at in order to use the whistle is just a few feet from the tower, at 55.3k, 56k. /use the whistle, and Craesyne will approach - when he is unstealthed, go talk to him. Craesyne says, "I was starting to think you weren't coming. Now stay low, keep quiet, and I'll tell you what I know." At this point you finish Illusions of Grandeur, and are given 32 billion experience (16,000 CLXP) and 518 gold. Craesyne continues with the beginning of Unraveling: Crush the Alliance... Craesyne says, "I never would have imagined that the Graoch and Deifrang would be so low as to join with the Thelo, but there are definitely negotiations taking place. Sure, they still fight each other, for now, but it's [slowing down]." Craesyne says, "In my stealthy explorations of the Labyrinth, I've seen countless quiet meetings between individual Uruz and their corrupt counterparts. Often it's a simple exchange of a note or a single word before they part, but it never ends in violence. This has to stop now. I'm no fighter and they often meet in very dangerous areas where I can't risk revealing myself, but I think you'll have better chances." Will you help stop the negotiations between the Thelo and the other clans? Craesyne says, "Here, take this map. It shows all the regular meeting places I've found. Bring plenty of help that you can trust and stop these meetings without delay." The map Craesyne gives you is somewhat confusing, as rather than directing you from one point to the next, it starts each time with directions from the Hub. If you keep that in mind it's fairly straightforward, but here's a map with the meeting locations marked.
Most of the locations are easy to get to, and involve fighting, at most, a couple yellow con mobs. When you get to each, the quest will advance when you're close enough to the minotaur corpses. However, one location (#7) is just past a purple con mob, Stonemason Jh'tiel, who can be fairly difficult. It's possible to sneak past him if you time it right. This location is also different in that there's a mob to fight that's directly related to the quest - an orange con doppelganger named Craesyne will spawn and attack you. When you kill the false Craesyne, he drops a map (not really, it doesn't go into your inventory or anything, but the chat window says he does) with another location on it. Head to location #8, in the Albion entrance area.
The suspicious looking goblins at this location are, in fact, dopplegangers. You can pull them individually until they're all dead. Once they are, go talk to the real Craesyne. Craesyne says, "Ugh, my head. I'd thank Vartigeth you found me, but first you should probably tell me who you are and why you're [down here]." Craesyne says, "Well I suppose that explains it. I've been investigating these negotiations between the other clans for days. From what I've overheard and read in documents I've managed to sneak a peek at, it looks like the Thelo are offering a portion of the Labyrinth, along with some of the relics within, in exchange for the help of the Graoch or the Deifrang in clearing out the [demons] once an for all." Craesyne says, "The dopplegangers have been trying to stop this at the behest of the demons. They spotted me spying on the negotiations, stole the map I'd made of the meeting locations, then forced me to talk by poisoning me with some magic-resistant concoction they stole from the [Thelo]." Craesyne says, "Frankly I'm all for letting the demons put a stop to this themselves, but even with the dopplegangers' help, they're not making any ground. I've got my own plan, but I've got to get the antidote for this poison first or I'll never live to see it to fruition. Find the nearest Thelo alchemist and see if he has some. Here, I'll mark on the map where I think I last saw one. At the time I didn't think he was worth noting." Go kill a corrupt alchemist - I've only ever seen one, but it's in an easy to get to location....
Once you've killed the alchemist and have the antidote (it should only take one kill), return to Craesyne - you'll have to kill the goblins/dopplegangers again. Talk to Craesyne... Craesyne says, "You're back! Thank Nethuni those animals even bothered making an antidote. I'll probably have a nasty headache for a few more days, but I'll live. Now let's get on to [business]." Craesyne says, "If we want to stop these alliances with the Thelo, we need to revive their contempt and distrust of one another. While the forces of the other clans may still fight each other regularly, none will attack the others' leaders and key negotiators while diplomatic discussion continues. If we can [break this precedent], their negotiations should crumble." Craesyne says, "The first thing I need you to do is track down the commanders of both the Graoch and Deifrang's expeditionary forces, Bertuch and Ottogron. Kill them both, as well as any witnesses nearby. Search the [bodies] and get Bertuch's Graoch Medallion and Ottogron's Deifrang Signet Ring." Craesyne says, "Take this buckle and this button, both from the armor of a Thelo commander. I managed to procure them from his quarters a few days ago. Drop them by the bodies before you leave to implicate the Thelo. Report back to me at my secret rendezvous location. The High Consul should have told you about it." Now you must head toward the Hibernian entry level area of the Labyrinth. On the stairs to the Hibernian section of the entry level is a room off to the side - Commander Bertuch is in this room. He is orange con, and has several orange con guards - it is a tough fight for a solo player, if you do it as intended. However, it's been reported that he can be pulled solo and his guards won't add - but I'd consider this a bug, so wouldn't rely on it. I'd bring at least a friends or two. (You may need to bring a lot of friends just to GET to him, depending on how active RvR in the Labyrinth is.) Once Bertuch is dead you will receive Bertuch's Graoch Medallion. You must drop the Thelo Commander's Buckle in the vicinity of where Bertuch spawns to move on to the next step. This involves literally dropping it on the ground, as you might do with loot you don't want to keep. When you've killed Bertuch, taken his medallion, and dropped the buckle, you must head to the Mid side and do the same thing with their commander, Ottogron. Kill him, get his Signet, and drop the Button.
Once the commanders have been killed and the false evidence placed, meet Craesyne on Agramon (again, sort of). Head to the same tree as before and use the signaling whistle again. Craesyne says, "Haha! Perfect. Both clans are probably already planning a counterattack. Now we [make sure] the Thelo never stop to explain that they weren't responsible." Craesyne says, "The Thelo like to gather at sites near Nurizane's Crossroads before their attacks. They're often led by one of two commanders, Talidrarg or Irodrim. I need you to find and kill them both. Be sure no Thelo that see you survive. Leave the Graoch Medallion near Talidrarg's body and the Deifrang Signet Ring near Irodrim's body. Report back to me here once you're done." Now you basically have to do what you just did with the Graoch and Deifrang commanders, just in a different location. These fights are slightly more difficult than the previous ones, since the Thelo commanders are red con. They're not located in a hallway that will often be used for RvR traffic, however...
Drop the Graoch Medallion at Talidrarg's spawn, and the Deifrang Signet Ring at Irodrim's spawn. That done, return to Agramon again and summon Craesyne once more near the tree. Craesyne says, "Well at least you used the whistle this time. What are you still doing on Agramon?" You now complete Crush the Alliance, and begin the last quest of Chapter 2, Kingly Crisis. You receive 40 billion experience, as well as 1 plat. Craesyne says, "I thought you were heading back to the the throne room to let everyone know of our success. Why are you looking at me like that? You were just here about an hour ago with your allies telling me you'd succeeded in your mission. You said you were going to let the [Chamberlain] know, then inform the High Consul in his sanctum." Craesyne says, "Where'd you find the whistle, anyway? You said you lost it, which is why you wouldn't stop shouting for me to come out. [You have no idea] what I'm talking about, do you..." Craesyne says, "Gah! How could I have been so stupid? The dopplegangers must have known about my meeting place or they wouldn't have been able to meet you here to send you into the Labyrinth. Your King may be in [grave danger]!" Craesyne says, "Get to the throne room immediately, Urimoo! Defend the King's lifeblood at all costs!" As Craesyne suggests (orders?), you should now head to the Throne Room, and be prepared to fight to defend the king. This step is probably soloable, but it won't hurt to bring friends. Once you get to the throne room, you'll notice that lined up in the area in front of the King are some new NPCs. These will quickly shapechange into blue con dopplegangers, which the NPCs nearby will start fighting. You can join in, or not. When they are dead, there will be a short pause, and then a demon, Duke Raloruk, will appear. The demon is heavily purple when it spawns, but fear not - he kills the NPCs in the room (particularly the weaponmasters from the various guilds). Once the weaponmasters are dead, he becomes orange con, but with a whole lot of hit points. He doesn't do a lot of damage, so if you have any healing, or good defense, he should be no problem. Toward the end of the fight some bovine cavalry comes to save the day - High Consul Herleagis and a pair of High Guardians. They will help you kill Duke Raloruk. Killing Raloruk should move the quest to the next step, which is to talk to High Consul Herleagis. However, it's sometimes wonky with the credit, so you may have to do it again (to do so, just leave the Throne Room instance, wait a few minutes, and go back in - if anyone has that step of the quest, the encounter should begin again). Assuming you got credit as you should have, talk to the High Consul. High Consul Herleagis says, "Craesyne informed me of the situation and we got here as fast as we could. You should speak with the King and make sure he's alright. I hope this has shown him just how serious a threat the Labyrinth poses to the realm's safety as long as it is left open." Speak with King Constantine. King Constantine says, "I will not see Albion continue to be threatened at its very core by demons, dopplegangers, corrupt minotaurs, trolls, elves or anything else over dusty, corrupted relics! The Korazh can have their alliance. This Labyrinth must be sealed or destroyed immediately and we're going to need their help to do it. Speak with Chamberlain Harlen. This ends now." Speak with Chamberlain Harlen... Chamberlain Harlen says, "What the King asks will not be easy. You've faced significant danger in recent days, but I have a feeling that you haven't even scratched the surface of the true menace that lurks within the Labyrinth. Come back to me only when you feel truly ready." And thus ends Unraveling. You receive another 16 billion experience and 518 gold. |
