Go check out Prime!: Anyone interested in DAoC may want to check out Prime: Battle for Dominus. It's kinda like DAoC, but with scifi, and jetpacks, and Sanya.

1.88 Goes Live, And Servers Beg For Mercy
Submitted by: Uriel on 3/30/2007 3:42:12 PM
1.88 went live Wednesday, with all its Archery and BP4PvE goodness, and subsequently caused all sorts of issues. Patching issues (which were bandwidth related - if you tried various hardware fixes or restarted your computer a dozen times while spinning counterclockwise and chanting, you may have wasted your time), a BP4ML bug that apparently let people get ML10 for free...

And rather worrying to me, the patch also introduced (new) Vista compatibility problems. As I have deliberately ignored the advice of every technology expert in the world and at this very moment have a copy of Vista waiting to be installed, that's less than welcome news.

Newsletter, where art thou?
Submitted by: Uriel on 3/22/2007 7:58:47 PM
Sanya posted on the Herald that Mythic is going to be sending out a newsletter - starting yesterday - in order to keep players who don't read the Herald informed. Presumably everyone who visits a fansite such as this also reads the Herald - in which case the info in the newsletter probably won't be of much use, but... prizes!
The part YOU want to know about involves the nifty in-game prizes we're going to be giving out to newsletter subscribers. And I do mean nifty, starting in the second edition of the newsletter. You can always unsubscribe if you think I exaggerated! After the newsletter people get first crack, I'll tell you about the prizes here.

Unfortunately I don't have my newsletter yet, which seems to be a fairly common problem - before getting too worried about it, consider how many people this newsletter is being sent to... it will probably take quite a while before all of them are sent out.

Testing tools! Oh, and some archery stuff, too.
Submitted by: Uriel on 3/9/2007 2:09:49 PM
The biggest news in 1.88d is certainly the archery changes, but frankly I'm a lot more excited about the testing change, since it's something I've wanted to see for a very long time now…
- (Pendragon only) In an effort to facilitate testing, we have added an NPC to each of the realm's capital cities which will grant the following: Experience, Realm Points, Bounty Points, and coin. This will allow players to create new characters or update existing characters as needed to test new additions to the game in a more effective and timely manner. Enjoy!

This allows for greatly improved testing and if nothing else should mean that the info here will be updated more quickly (it's far easier to get delves for stuff when you can get to level 50 in a few minutes). I <8 Mythic right now for this change.

However, for all those who plan to use these NPCs, I'd like to make sort of a public service announcement: Don't use /say! Instead, please take these simple steps.
1. Make macro - "/macro Bump /whisper level RPs BPs gold" will give you all four bonuses at once.
2. Stick macro on quickbar.
3. Target testing NPC.
4. Hold down macro button. You can just hold it down for as long as you need to and will get bumps incredibly quickly.

Now, to the bigger changes.
CLASS AND SKILL CHANGES

Archery (Hunters, Rangers and Scouts)

This patch will implement functionality for the new Archery system. The mechanics of the system will be mostly in place, but delves of these attacks are still being tweaked.

- Archers have had their unique bow lines replaced with a new line, called "Archery".

- The Archery line contains 12 types of shots and several self buffs. The names of these abilities are still placeholders at this time, and will be updated in a later version in this patch cycle.

- The Pathfinding skill for Rangers has been merged into Archery, and all of the buffs from that line are now found in the Archery line (available to all Archer classes).

- Self buffs in Beastcraft have been replaced with the self buffs in the Archery Spec.

- New archery abilities are now available under the spells tab, under the Archery list.

- Archery damage and draw time are now affected by the Dexterity skill.

- Archery shots now have a minimum range of 200 units, except for the point blank shot.

- Archery shots now have different Endurance costs depending upon the shot.

- Archery shot types are as follows:

Standard Shot: Average range, draw time and damage.

Long Shot: Longer range, average draw time and slightly lower damage.

Power Shot: Shorter range, long draw time not affected by Dexterity; higher damage.

Point Blank Shot: Very short range, long draw time and high damage.

Critical Shot: Must be fired from stealth, very high damage, average range and average draw time.

Rapid Fire: Average range, short draw time and low damage.

Fire Shot: Heat damage, long draw time and shorter range.

Cold Shot: Cold damage, long draw time and shorter range.

Poison Shot: Body damage Direct Damage/Damage Over Time, long draw time and shorter range.

Acid Shot: Matter damage Direct Damage/Damage Over Time, long draw time and Shorter range.

Volley: Ground Targeted Arrow Volley will hit 3 times; damage increases with spec, as well as the number of enemies hit.

Siege Shot: Does damage to objects such as Keep Doors and Siege equipment.

Current known issues:

- Shield block, Bladeturn, Brittle Guards and Ablatives are not yet implemented.

- Icons are currently placeholders, and arrow effects are not yet implemented.

- Sounds are not yet implemented.

- Certain shots are not yet functioning when used against other players.

- The ability to choose damage types is not yet implemented.

- Realm Abilities are not finalized.

This is just the start and much of it isn't working yet, so at this point I think we should probably hold off drawing any conclusions...

More Kill Task Info, Better Sorting
Submitted by: Uriel on 3/7/2007 5:32:23 PM
The kill task pages now have both minimum and maximum levels filled in. They (and the Trophies pages) also now use a better sorting script - better mainly in that it also stripes the tables for added legibility. So, umm, enjoy.

1.88c and an Explanation
Submitted by: Uriel on 3/2/2007 6:29:34 PM
Animists sort of get their PvE uberness back...
- Animists will now receive a new ability in their Creeping Baseline at level 29 called “Fungal Potency”. It is only usable in PVE zones, has a 2 second cast time, is non-interruptible and castable while on the move. The effect is a 350 radius pet cast ability that reduces resists against high level monsters. This will enhance the Animist pet's ability to hit high level PVE targets.

And to explain that change a bit, DJ Larkin (who is known as the Redhead in Sanya's Herald posts, and is pretty much the Class Guy) has this to say...
Fungal Potency simply increases damage against high level (50+ level) monsters by a percentage. It does not inflate the attacker count. DD bombers count as attackers, and still do a significant portion of pet spam. A single Animist can still break the to hit code on a level 80 monster with level 1 DD bombers, which is the equivalent number of attackers of about 4-5 people using Call of a Thousand Storms. Note, dragons are level 80.

There are also changes to portal stones:
- Personal Bind Stones, Personal House Recall Stones, and Guild House Recall Stones are now available to all players. The Royal Treasury Clerks have been moved out of the throne room so they can be accessed more easily by players who cannot enter the throne rooms.

And ToA boats:
- The personal boats that are available for purchase in the Trials of Atlantis lands now require only one person to operate. They will now always move at full speed regardless of the number of passengers. In addition, the cost to purchase these items has been reduced dramatically. This includes the skiff used in all realms and the following realm-specific boats: British Cog, Viking Longship, and Elvish Caravel.
