Contest Goodness
Submitted by: Uriel on 8/29/2003 10:20:24 AM
In case you missed the news on Tuesday, we're sponsoring a contest. Here are the rules and details:

Overview: The concept is simple - you submit things, we give you points for your submissions, and those with the most points win a prize.

Eligible Submissions: Submissions can be just about anything you wish to send us. Guides are at the top of the list, but fan art, completely new features (look at the Featurettes list for ideas), or even just a small correction will also count. Updates to existing content also count. You can, of course, only submit your OWN work. There is no limit to the number of submissions you can make.

Scoring: Arbitrary, but based largely upon size of the submission, accuracy, presentation, and overall usefulness to the community.

Prizes: Undetermined; however, a little birdy has hinted that perhaps the winners will be spending some time discovering the mysteries of fallen Atlantis at some point in the future...

How to Enter: Send your submission (guide, art, new content, correction, whatever) to uriel@classesofcamelot.com with "CoC Contest" in the subject line. Your email address will be used both to identify you if you send in multiple submissions and to contact you if you win, so be sure to use the same one for all of your submissions.

Start Date: 8/26/03
End Date: None Set

The Disclaimer: You acknowledge that by sending in a submission, you give Classes of Camelot the right to publish your submission and to make necessary formatting changes, whether your submission leads to a prize or not.

More details (i.e. the end date of the contest, the prizes) will appear on the Contest Page as time goes by.

1.64 TL report feedback beginning, with a loss.
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/28/2003 9:04:31 AM
The DAoC TL community is losing a long-time member, Neill, the Warden TL. He announced his resignation over on the Nature's Wall warden message board. He will obviously be sorely missed by the warden and the TL communities.

On a lighter note, the blademaster 1.64 TL report has been posted, while the savage, warden, cleric, druid, eldritch, nightshade, enchanter, necromancer, and sorcerer have recieved feedback from the developers on the issues they presented in their reports.

Finally, Game Club Central has written a review of Dark Age of Camelot: Gold edition, giving it an 8.5 score out of 10. The Gold edition package includes Classic DAoC, the Shrouded Isles expansion pack, and the Foundations housing expansion - everything you need to get started adventuring in Camelot!

UPDATE!: Pendragon testing patch version 1.65C has been posted to the Camelot Herald.

Wednesday stuff
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/27/2003 7:57:34 AM
Yesterday on the Camelot Herald, Sanya posted the following: "We're bringing the servers down [today] at 8:00 AM EDT - a few of the bug fixes on Pendragon shouldn't have to wait until we're done with the rest of the patch. We expect the servers to return no later than 11:00 AM EDT, and of course, I'll update this space with more information as I get it."

Players rejoice! Dev feedback has started coming in from TL reports, the first of which are the ranger, hero, and thane.

Grail News has hosted a pretty well-done map of the new (Albion) Shrouded Isles "island" zone by Pingir of the HEXE guild on Gaheris.

Finally, Gamesunit, a German gaming website, has posted 36 new screenshots of the Trials of Atlantis expansion.

Update: The servers are up, and so are the 1.64b release notes.

Bring out your guides!
Submitted by: Uriel on 8/26/2003 4:48:56 PM
It's time for the first-ever (as far as I can remember, anyway) CoC contest. The concept is simple - you submit things, we give you points for your submissions, and those with the most points win a prize.

Submissions can be just about anything you wish to send us. Guides are at the top of the list, but fan art, completely new features (look at the Featurettes list for ideas), or even just a small correction will also count. The larger the submission, of course, the more points you get for it.

This is a long-term contest, with no current date set for its end. Plenty of time to write a great guide, if you so wish. :) Grading will be completely arbitrary (in other words, you won't automatically get 10 points for submitting a piece of fan art and 20 for a guide), but based mostly upon usefulness to the community and professionalism. If you send us a guide so horribly written we can't read it, you're not going to get any credit for it. By submitting something, you give us the right to put it on CoC, as well as to make any formatting changes necessary to match the theme of the site.

Now, what I'm sure you're all curious about: What is the prize for winning this contest? Well, we're not sure. It'll be good though, whatever we come up with! A little birdy has hinted that perhaps the winners will be spending some time discovering the mysteries of fallen Atlantis at some point in the future...

Tuesday! Its... the day after Monday!
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/26/2003 10:43:20 AM
For any interested, Midgard on the Morgan le Fay (a.k.a. MLF) server is now eligible for /level 30 characters, instead of 20.

The last of the RvR TL reports are posted now! Read the Midgard RvR TL report by Squawk, and the Albion RvR TL report by Kiamar. Additionally, the Armsman TL report by Mors was posted on Meatshield.com.

Update: An absolutely glowing report from the new Roleplayers TL is here. He replies to the /rpfilter command, housing settings, and last name removal feature with an emphatic THANK YOU!

Also, I'd like to make a shameless plug/ props for our resident raid leader on Albion/Bors, Percilus, who last night successfully defeated the feared Golestandt with 25 people! Great job to everyone who particpated on the raid, it was incredible fun! /em waits for Mythic to read this and decide to beef up the dragon again... :)

New Vault Fan Fiction: "The Determined Hero and the Sly Assassin - Chapter 1" by Striderki of Gawaine

Darkness Falls – a mystical place with several gateways, vicious demons, and sly adversaries hailing from the lands of Albion, Hibernia, and Midgard. Unable to share in the abundant rewards this temporal dungeon has to offer, the three realms resent the Fall’s ownership by any other realm and constantly battle for control over it.

New Vault Fan Fiction 2: "Emain Macha - Chapter 16" by Icehawk

"Behold my lord, I have turned from your light. My family and home is now but a dream. No longer will I think of them." Sir Williams whispered as he knelt on one knee with his hands grasping the hilt of his sword. The moon light glistened off his armor as he continued his prayer.

New Vault Player Editorial: "1337" by Richard Brooks

The battle of the action figures begins. He-Man promptly delivers a right hook to Megatron, who drops to the ground. "OWNED!” shouts the five year old. His mother, an avid MMORPG player, gasps. Her puzzled request of where he heard such slang is answered by nothing but a carefree shrug. True story.

I found a very cool DAoC miscellaneous info website you can find it here. It has a lot of info on Necromancers, Immunity Timers, Pets, Blocking, Realm Ranks, and a whole lot more.

Another fun DAoC website where you can find a Stat Calc, Weapon Speed Calc, Realm Ability Calc, and other various things here. Very helpful.

That is all the fun stuff this time around :( Always a next time, Enjoy :D

Tradeskill Information
Submitted by: Bearach on 8/25/2003 3:00:17 PM
Over the weekend we've added some tradeskill information to the site. Now on every class page you can find a list of tradeskills that class can take as a primary craft. We've also added in a skills page that has a chart showing the primary tradeskills for each class and some brief information about each tradeskill. For more information about tradeskills in general visit daoctradeskills for guides and comprehensive forums. Thanks to Hedek of Excalibur for the suggestion!

Your weekend news update!
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/25/2003 8:26:07 AM
First things first! The "Frisky Friday" Grab Bag was posted quite late on Friday evening. Read about the latest SI zones and player questions.

Mythic has successfully programmed the ability to move your character from the Andred (PVP) server to the Mordred (PVP) server. Read all about it here! Perhaps this will one day lead to a broader range of server moves, as many players have been hoping for!

(Update!) No /charpulls were running during the weekend, but they've started another thousand this morning. Says Sanya, "After tomorrow's batch, we'll be closing the Andred server. Andred characters that aren't moved will still exist for a few more months (you'll be able to choose the server from the list and look at the character selection screen, but not log in), so you'll still be able to move characters for some time to come." Read all about it right here.

The latest 1.64 TL reports to be posted are the necromancer, cleric, druid, runemaster, sorcerer, skald, shadowblade, bard, Hibernia RvR, warrior, spiritmaster, healer, champion, reaver, valewalker, berserker, and animist. Definitely a good weekend for TL reports!

Happy Monday! ;)

TL Reports galore, and the beginning of 1.65A
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/22/2003 7:45:57 AM
1.65A begins with this Pendragon test patch. Says Sanya, the patch should be up on the test server for 4 to 6 weeks, plenty of time to test out the new expansion zones introduced! Click here to read all about the interesting new changes.

We've had even more TL Reports come in over the past day, particularly the eldritch, savage, wizard, warden, nightshade, bonedancer, and mentalist. These reports reflect the current class issues represented to Mythic, go check them out if you play these characters!

SoBig worm affecting Mythic

"That worm spreading love and joy throughout the internet has certainly been a hoot, hasn't it. Not. Here's how it may affect you and Mythic: Fake email from us. You may have gotten virus email from what appears to be me, Scott Jennings, or even our support department...."

Well... if you have my e-mail saved in your contact list, please, please make sure your virus definitions are up to date =) I can't actually get the virus, because I'm uber l33t and use Unix / PINE, but I did receive 1622 copies of that virus-infected e-mail yesterday =)

Also, tell your relatives, your friends, and your guildmates, because unless you haven't noticed, we've now got daily news! And we won't spam you with any of the worthless junk, just the yum-yum goodies that you wanna know about.

DAoC Player Article: RvR
Submitted by: Lineage on 8/21/2003 8:04:14 AM
Written by SDhealer

"Large numbers of people invading the frontier is a problem that most guilds who would like to go 8v8 run into. This is the way that Mythic set the game up, but on some servers certain realms are way out numbered and would enjoy a fair fight every once in a while. Crafters in each Realm spend a lot of money to power up their skills so they can make Armor and Weapons that can be used by their Realm mates. Although while there is no way for crafters to get a discount on the items they buy, in listening to many different people in game and also on the VN Boards, I have come up with a idea for a new RvR & merchant area."

Start your morning right with some fresh-squeezed... news.
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/21/2003 7:52:52 AM
Yesterday evening, two "read files" were read to the live servers, for minor fixes such as Denbigh village will not longer have 2 Pipers standing on top of each other. and The housing bounty merchants will now correctly break the 100 gold rent tokens down in to 5 ea. 20 gold rent tokens.

Shortly afterwards, Sanya posted the signups for the long-awaited "Andred Merger" testing, which filled up very quickly. You can read the full article to find out more!

Finally, we've got a new guide for those of you who have a penchant for playing different and interesting characters and/or specs - the "Battle Druid" guide by Walfred, 50 Druid of Mordred. This guide can be found along with many other excellent guides at the Camelot Vault's guide section.

Bugs, TL reports and reviews, oh my!
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/20/2003 1:42:51 PM
Sanya of Mythic has posted a notice on the Camelot Herald of a small bug, dealing with the housing zone merchant search feature, and its workaround.

Monthly TL reports are quickly starting to come in. The latest to be submitted are the hero, ranger, and enchanter reports. If you play any of these classes, see what views and ideas are being conveyed to Mythic developers by your class representative!

Finally, Gamezone.com has posted their official review of Dark Age of Camelot's second expansion, the free addition "Foundations." They have given it a score of 9.3 (out of a possible 10), saying "Foundations is a free download to the program and though you do have to jump through some hoops to get to the houses, once you get there, the options and accessories to customize your house are amazing." Yet another glowing review for DAoC and its expansions!

News for your Terrible Tuesday!
Submitted by: Galadyn on 8/19/2003 10:20:08 AM
For those Hibernians looking to venture down into the Fomor dungeon, Thredh, level 50 Warden of Guinevere, has posted an excellent guide. The monthly Thane TL report has been posted on the VN Boards by Pakka, the Thane TL. The art team at Mythic has designed another Camelot wallpaper, this time of a Hibernian marketplace. And last but not least, all Dark Age of Camelot US servers are back up and running with the fixes entered yesterday on Pendragon. Happy Tuesday! :)

As a side note, I'd just like to say hi. I have stepped up to fill the "NewsMonkey" position here at Classes of Camelot. ;) Bors players should know me as Galadyn, Guinevere players will know me as the original Lebeoe. I think the one thing CoC has been missing is a daily DAoC "news ticker" sort of feature, and hopefully I can keep you all up to date on how things are going. Now what are you doing still reading this, I thought you were going to load up Camelot? ;)

Adds!
Submitted by: Uriel on 8/7/2003 11:26:03 PM
Two new additions to the site today. First, a list of loot you can find in Caer Sidi, created and maintained by KabuKi. Second, Captain Elephant's Guide to The Mysteries of Camelot - essentially, a really big list of the various armor and weapons in DAoC that have unique skins, models, glowie effects, etc - with screenshots, stats, and info on where you can get the items. You can find that one here.

And if you know something we don't (or at least something we don't have listed), don't be shy - go ahead and send it to either the creator of the appropriate page or to any of the other staff members here at CoC.

Becoming a Gumshoe
Submitted by: Mistwolf on 8/6/2003 2:01:16 PM
With the addition of Larian, our staff roster has come to encompass all the things that make up a good site - a writer, an information specialist, two programmers, and a webmaster. We are, however, missing one key player - the glorious position of NewsMonkey. Now, don't let the glamorous name fool you, being a NewsMonkey is no laughing matter. A NewsMonkey must train for decades (or minutes) to hone his techniques (spell-checker) and skills (news mongering).

That being said, we're looking for someone to fill the last staff position of super-sleuth, gumshoe, net detective, Clark Kent, NewsMonkey, or what have you. If you're interested in this dangerous but rewarding mission of peril and life-threatening keystroking, please post your desires in the appropriate thread in the forums =) That is all.

A New Guy
Submitted by: LarianLeQuella on 8/2/2003 10:20:29 AM
Greetings Friends. I just wanted to add in this bit of news about another guy here at Classes of Camelot that will hopefully keep you all informed about developments in Dark Age of Camelot. Just so you know, I am a GuildMaster, the Ranger Team Lead, and well, I try to have a life with my family and such. Mostly I will be working behind the sceenes to make Classes of Camelot even better than it is (a hard job indeed). Feel free to leave me feedback, and let me know if you see anything that needs improvement. In the meantime, I need to figure out how to do stuff here, but I look forward to working with all of you.
