Today is the 26th, the end of our contest for Trials of Atlantis beta spots. It was hard to choose among the many good submissions, but here are the winners (in no particular order):
Squeegoth, for his Spiritmaster Guide and no less than a couple dozen site corrections.
Enyart Jon, for his Cabalist guide and stylized screenshots.
Knumbknuts, for his humorous and informative guide to the Albion frontier.
Saturnn Soulseeker, for his Eldritch guide and poems.
Brian Kallenbach, for his very comprehensive Runemaster guide.
Some notes about the scoring:
Completely original content (in other words, content that wasn't already posted elsewhere) was given more points than that which was already out there. If something was already out there but relatively little-known, it was given a score somewhere between what it would have gotten if it were totally new and if it were widely available.
Guides that filled a niche, in that there weren't other guides already available doing the same thing, were given more points than others, as they will be more useful to the community.
Bulk helps. Squeegoth finished in first place (by quite a wide margin) because he provided a very good guide and then sent in a couple dozen corrections on top of it. And in general, the longer a guide was, the more points it received.
I'm sorry that we don't have more beta spots to give out, as there were others who I felt deserved one. I am, however, inquiring about a sort of consolation prize.
Winners, keep an eye on the email address you used to send me your submission.

Or several months early, if you're an optimist. Anyway, I've gone through our list of guides and have removed the ones that are either a) bad or b) outdated. What do I mean by "bad" guides, you ask? Well, if a guide doesn't take more than a page or so if you copy it into Microsoft Word, I don't think it qualifies as a Guide, unless it has an extremely narrow focus. Even then, it should at least go into some detail on the small amount of stuff it covers. A "bad" guide is not one that I or anyone else might disagree with - there are any number of ways to play a class, and we aren't choosing which guides to post based on our own opinions of how something "should" be done.
Thankfully, very few guides had to be removed from the list because they were not up to par; but quite a few were removed because they were created so long ago that they are no longer relevant. The guides page is about 20 items shorter than it used to be; but if you feel like one of the guides still listed is either too bad or too old to be useful, email me about it and I'll give it a closer look.

===================================
NEW THINGS AND BUG FIXES
- Quickcast will now grey out (like other spells/abilities with recast timers).
- Ability Casters (non-cloth wearing casters) will now have their spells displayed by spec line and spell level, similar to 'List Casters' (cloth wearing casters).
- Added new bindable keys for Right Handed Weapon Slot, Two Handed Weapon Slot, and Ranged Weapon slot. Pressing these keys will act the same as if you had dragged the icon to the quickbar and clicked on it.
- (Pendragon Only) Your character's /hood preference will now saving on zoning and logging.
- (Pendragon Only) We fixed a bug that was introduced in 1.65D that affected spell and archery line-of-sight checks. Trees once again should not block line-of-sight, which has been the case since the game launched.
CAMELOT CLASSIC WORLD NOTES
Quests- General
- We are excited to announce a few new types of quest rewards for players that are working to increase their tradeskills. These rewards can be gained through quests given by your tradeskill masters in the capital cities of each realm. Players must have a minimum skill level of 500 and be a minimum of level 5. For now, players will be able to do the level 500 quests repeatedly until they have received all of the different types of tradeskill rewards. In future versions we will add additional quests at higher levels. These quests will require that players achieve level 10 and have higher tradeskill levels. We hope that you will enjoy the benefits from these rewards as you continue to advance your tradeskill ranks.
Hibernia Quests
- The quest "Piaras and Lhia" has been changed from level 50 to level 49.
Realm v. Realm
- Part of the regular courtyard guard contingent of the relic keeps have been associated with keeps throughout the frontier. When a keep is under enemy control, the guard associated with that keep will no longer be available to assist in relic defense.
- (Pendragon Only) Gatekeepers for the new inner doors are now available for use at all keeps using the new door layout. These gatekeepers function the same way as other gatekeepers.
Item Notes
- (Pendragon Only) The seals available for purchase in the main cities have been renamed. Additionally, the diamond seals are now sold 1 at a time.
- (Pendragon Only) Empo will now sell the Superior Accursed Avernal Flute (Albion).

An update on our contest, first off...
With 9 days left in the contest, we've received some very nice submissions, including some Featurettes which will be added soon and guides, which I'll link to in a bit. In a show of an extreme lack of foresight, I neglected to change my forwarding address to one with more than a few megabytes of space, and by the weekend, my box was full; if you don't see a mention of your submission anywhere, feel free to submit it again. I promise I have plenty of space this time! (Those who just submitted today don't need to resubmit, I simply haven't worked on your submissions yet.)
And now what those who have submitted something are no doubt anxiously awaiting - an updated leader board.
First place - Squeegoth, for sending in a lot of site corrections (which should be incorporated soon) and a very nice Spiritmaster Guide.
Second - John Giles, for some handy housing stuff which will be made into a featurette and posted soon.
Third - Brian Kallenbach, for his very well-written Runemaster Guide.
Fourth - defac, for both the idea for a new Featurette and some content to go in it. (More on this in a bit.)
Fifth - A tie between Gwirad for his Reaver Guide and Delivis for his Shaman Guide. Obviously we can't give out the fifth spot to two people, but something will probably break that tie over the next week...
I mentioned that defac was in fourth place in part for submitting the idea for a new Featurette. We are planning to create a database for spellcrafting templates, and of course would like templates to put in it. They will count for the contest, of course, should you choose to send them - whether in .txt or .scc format.
We've got more guides to give you as a result of the contest...
Delivis' Aug/Mend Shaman Guide
Squeegoth's Complete Spiritmaster Guide
William's Theurgist Guide
Bingman's Guide to Hunting as a Fire Wizard
Guide to Slaying the Midgard Dragon
Gwirad's Reaver Guide
Brian's Runemaster Guide
Bays' Skald Guide.
In non-contest-related news, our style/spell information should now be accurate up to 1.64 (not for 1.65, however, since that patch is still going through updates). As some of you may know, the Herald's XML is sometimes... well... wrong, and we have to make patches for the parsers so that we get the right info, rather than the Herald's. That can take a while, but it's finally done - let us know if you notice any problems or inconsistencies.

One of my personal favorite DAoC news sites will no longer be available; we hate to see you go Maia! Best of luck to you in whatever you end up doing with the additional time on your hands! ;)

First off, an update on the prizes for the contest: The top five submitters will win a spot in the Trials of Atlantis beta testing. This means, unfortunately, that only people playing on the North American servers can get the prize.
Four guides have come in so far as submissions - two new, and two updated. The updated ones first: Jester's Enchanter Guide, and Stann Faithbringer's Paladin Guide. And the new ones - Overrun's Blademaster Guide, and Andy's Mentalist Guide.
Currently the authors of these guides are in the lead to win the contest, with some space left over. If you'd like to be in the ToA beta, you'll need to start submitting! Remember that the submission can be just about anything you want, from guides to a correction of some info we have on the site to an idea for a new feature. Send any submissions to uriel@classesofcamelot.com with the subject "CoC Contest".
The details of the contest can be found on the Contest page.
Edit: Another update to the contest - it will end in 15 days - Friday, September 26. Don't take too long, but don't procrastinate!

Your NewsMonkey has been a slacker, and reading the archives of Penny Arcade when he should be posting news! Note the title reference.
Moving right along; We've got
mentalist,
valewalker,
hunter,
cabalist,
reaver, and
animist TL report feedback.
Check out what Mythic has in store for these classes, sounds like some good changes coming for all!
A while back Zepreacher started a 3 part DAoC movie mini-series
following the trials and tribulations of his characters
struggle to defend his realm. Come this October part 3
of this trilogy will be released to the masses, in honor
of that Zep has created an awesome trailer to whet the
appetite for the ending of this saga. "The
Outcome" trailer is a 13.9MB download and has
a run time of 1 minute and 13 seconds. If you missed the
first two films check out the Media
Box Movie section on the Camelot Allakazam site. (reposted from Grail News post by Maia because I'm too lazy to rephrase all that at once!)
Finally, Annunaki's DAoC Knowledge Base has been updated, I've received a link to a new 2h paladin guide in my email, and the Northern Reavers guild site has moved to http://www.northernreavers.com. The old link will still work, but bookmarks should be updated. Check out their character builder tool at http://www.northernreavers.com/mainframe_library_charplanner.cfm.

Today was posted the dev feedback to the Berserker TL report. But this was no normal feedback post - Xenogenic, the TL, took things less than amiably and... well, he flamed the developers and the TL program. As might be expected, that move wasn't conducive to job safety, and he was fired shortly after the thread went public. The Vault moderators decided to delete his comments (as well as ban quite a few people), so the only place you can now find the cause of the hubbub is at Catacombs.
Sanya came out to do some damage control, and Catacombs and Vault both have threads on that.
Though it's not as interesting as the scandal, Sanya posted the Grab Bag, as always. Covered this week: The status of jewelcraft, Mastery of Concentration and interruptions, unusual falling damage, and the revelation that Sanya did an interview on Warcry.
The DAoC KnowledgeBase has undergone a big update, so you might want to check it out.

.... Here we go! (there, my Dave Navarro moment is done)
Sorry for the lack of news updates, this one will be pretty big to cover the past couple days. "We just mailed out another fifty invitations to the Trials of Atlantis beta, FYI. Keep an eye on the Herald for more news on how to join the beta test in the next two weeks!" says Sanya on the Herald. Check your email if you haven't already! NOTE: If you get an email about ToA beta asking for your account password, do NOT reply to it. Mythic wouldn't exactly need your password, now would they?
More TL reports have received feedback, namely the
bonedancer,
shadowblade,
skald,
spiritmaster, and
warrior.
To quote from the 'Dreds update on the Herald, "We are up to date with all Andred move jobs through yesterday afternoon. They all moved over by last night. However, the downtime Mordred suffered last Friday may have caused us to miss making a few copies. I'm sorry for any inconvenience, but if you requested a move before and over the weekend, and have not yet had it made, please type the command again."
Wednesday kicked off the first day of the Trials of Atlantis beta contest. Says Sanya, "Every day (Monday through Friday) you'll find a new riddle located at http://www.camelotherald.com/toacontest/. Decipher the riddle, and then solve it. If you're the first to submit the form with the correct answer, you'll be put into the next wave of invited beta testers. We'll vary the time we post the riddle from week to week just to make sure our early birds (aka morning people) get a chance to be first, don't worry :) They vary in difficulty, but rest assured, all the answers relate to a person, place, or thing within Trials of Atlantis. This week's puzzles all relate to the zone you've already seen in screenshots - the waters, islands, and sunken temples of Oceanus. There will be thirty riddles in all. We wish you success!"
Finally, a member of the
Northern Reavers
on Midgard/Igraine has asked me to tell you all about an excellent new
character builder
utility by Ogmavaug, webmaster of their site. I've played around with it some, and it's an excellent tool, compliment to an excellent website that deserves more notice. Thanks Og, and thanks to JH for the info!

Let's get to the news;
The
bard,
blademaster, and
runemaster, Team Lead reports have received feedback. Check it out!
In other news, the mercenary TL has retired, and I've been informed that the thane TL has also hung up his hat. Of course we wish them the best of luck, and hope their replacements will do just as well as they did. Speaking of replacements - if you think you are cut out for any of the open TL positions, head on over to the Herald and get the information you need to apply!
Last but not least, the most-asked and most interesting player questions have been answered in Friday's
"white shoes grab bag".
